  • ​The Huron School Food Service Program is dedicated to providing students with a high quality product and service that meets the nutritional guidelines of the National School Lunch Program while accommodating student preferences.

  • Changes in school lunch menus went into effect July 1, 2012 as a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The Act is federal legislation aimed at fighting childhood obesity and childhood hunger, and ensures that school provided meals are healthy, well balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school. The Act includes the following key changes that will modify school menus as follows:

    • Schools are now required to offer minimum quantities of both fruits and vegetables every day to help ensure children increase their intake of these healthy food choices.

    • New lunch menus will also emphasize variety with a weekly requirement for different types of vegetables: dark green, red/orange, dry beans and peas, starchy and all other vegetables.

    • Beginning in 2014, all grains offered must be 100% whole-grain rich.

    • Daily and weekly ranges (minimum and maximum amounts) of grains and me at/meat alternate foods.

    • Restrictions on milk products sold in school cafeteria – only fat-free or 1% milk is permitted. Flavored milk must be fat-free.

    • Schools must adhere to a calorie range, as well as restrictions on trans fat, saturated fat, and sodium.

  • We recognize that these standards will require some adjustments on the part of students and their families. You will note that meal pricing has not change (although some ala carte items may be increased slightly), which will help to keep school meals a good value and a convenience for busy families.   • Elementary breakfast and lunch menus are sent home monthly, junior high and high school menus are posted in the buildings. Menus and Lunch Prices are available on this site as well.

  • Students may be eligible for free or reduced price lunches depending on family income. Applications are available in all of our schools.

  • Catering Services are also available for occasions such as athletic events, department meetings, holiday, graduation, wedding, showers, birthday and staff parties. Call for more information 734-782-1710

MISTAR Parent Portal

The “MISTAR” point of sale system used in the Food Service Department is designed to be a prepaid system where students deposit money into their account to make purchases at meal times. To prepay your student’s account you must be a registered user of MISTAR Parent Portal. Here you will be able to add funds to the account, check balances and view purchases. Parents are responsible for maintaining and monitoring their students’ lunch account by logging onto Parent Portal or by contacting the Food Service office at 734-782-1710.

REMINDER: Meal Account balances (positive or negative) carry over to the new school year.



POLICY FOR STUDENTS WITH NEGATIVE LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCES

If a student has a negative account balance, they will not be allowed to purchase snacks or extra items. If the negative balance reaches $ 6.00, that student will be served an alternate meal consisting of a cheese sandwich, vegetable, fruit and milk for lunch. The charge for this alternate meal will be $1.00 and added to the account balance. For breakfast the student will receive a cereal bowl and milk and $.50 will be added to the account balance.

Other methods of payment may be made with cash, personal check, or money order. Please make checks payable to Huron School District Food Service and write your student’s name and school on the check.

** If your child forgets his/her lunch, lunch money, or has any kind of extenuating circumstance, please contact the Food Service Director, Honey Allgood, at 734-782-1710 to discuss the situation.
