Good afternoon Renton Band/Choir parents!

I want to invite each of you this week to our Renton Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Conferences will be held on Wednesday, October 21 from  6-8:30 p.m.  and again on Thursday, October 22 from 12:30-3 p.m. It is important to share thoughts on your student's progress both at school and home, so I hope I have the opportunity to meet with many of you!

Secondly, a reminder that Practice Logs are due each Friday.  Practice logs are documentation of your student's at home practicing.  It is important at this level to reinforce concepts taught in class individually.  Students benefit the most when parents ask for a "mini concert" once or twice a week after the student has practiced.  It allows them to demonstrate their skills and will keep you up to date as to which concepts we are learning in class.

This week I will ask my Beginning Band students to perform a "Home Concert".  Thank you for taking time to complete this with your student and giving feedback on their performance!

Vocal Music students will begin working on our musical theater unit, featuring "Seussical Jr.".  The final cast list will be distributed to the students that auditioned next week.

Finally, all 7th and 8th grade band members (Concert Band and Symphonic Band) must decide which festival selection they will perform at for our Solo and Ensemble Unit.  The deadline is Tuesday October 20 to submit paperwork as to the festival and the type of event (solo, duet, trio, etc.) your student would like to work towards.  The form is attached for your review. Huron Band Booster Student Accounts

Beginning in 6th grade (or whichever grade a student transferring in begins their career at Huron), the Huron Band Boosters create for each student an account in which they deposit money that students earn from fundraising efforts. The amount per item that is earned for each fundraiser is always listed on the fundraising flyer and some fundraisers go towards the General Account (used for administrative costs or large purchases for the general band/choir).

Money from this account can be used for music related expenses, which include (but are not limited to) reeds, textbooks, repairs, summer camp, high school marching band camp, uniforms, etc.

Students who wish to use their account for a purchase must place the order through Mrs. Bressler or Mrs. Ritthaler, and indicate on the “Supplies Requested” form that the amount should be subtracted from the account.

In the event that a student does not enroll in a musical ensemble at Huron, the account will be frozen for one year. After the year, if the student reenrolls in a band or choir, the account becomes active again. If the student does not return to band or choir after a year, any money still in the account is transferred into the Booster’s General Account. Money may be transferred between siblings only (not friends, cousins, etc.).

To get an update on the amount currently in your student’s account, email Mrs. Bressler or Mrs. Ritthaler. Please include your student’s name and grade in the message.
